Providing sunscreen lotions to persons with albinism is a priority. Lack of access to these essentials in rural areas can lead to severe skin damage. The foundation ensures that individuals receive proper protection against the sun’s harmful effects.
The foundation aims to educate communities about the dangers faced by persons with albinism. By dispelling myths and misconceptions, they work towards preventing violence and discrimination.
Patricia Tsiga, born and raised in Zimbabwe, is the visionary founder of Butterfly Foundation International. This organization is dedicated to transforming lives and advocating for mental health awareness across multiple countries. Her journey into philanthropy was marked by a profound moment in 2012 during a visit to Namaso Bay, Malawi, where she encountered Ganet Njerenje, a woman ostracized by her village due to her mental challenges and muteness.
Moved by Ganet’s plight, Tsiga initiated an investigation through Ricky Mwenyewe, a field officer for Transport4transport at the time. It was discovered that Mwenyewe was related to the Njerenje family, adding a personal connection to their struggles. Under Tsiga’s leadership, Butterfly Foundation International began providing Ganet with essential support, including clothing and food, significantly alleviating the burden on her paralyzed father, who had lost his job due to severe health issues.
Thanks to Tsiga’s intervention, Ganet’s life transformed from one of isolation to one of purpose. She became a beacon of hope and a key provider for her family. Tsiga’s efforts have highlighted the critical need for mental health education and awareness campaigns, challenging stigma and misinformation across multiple countries.
The butterfly effect of Tsiga’s work has reached as far as Gambia, Zambia, Malawi, and Zimbabwe. In Zambia, the foundation is helping people with albinism. In Zimbabwe, it assists children with school fees and supports the disabled. In Gambia, it has various projects, and in Malawi, it aids women with HIV, the elderly, and the less privileged. Patricia Tsiga’s life and work continue to inspire and drive Butterfly Foundation International’s mission to create a more inclusive and compassionate world.
